DIY Salmon Skin Dog Treats

My dog, Cleo, LOVES salmon! Every time we crinkle aluminum foil she comes running to the kitchen assuming we have a fresh cooked salmon and some left-over skin to give her.

I like to save the skin every time we eat salmon to make dog treats for her! If you want to make a big batch, you can save the skin by freezing it until you’re ready to make the treats. If using frozen skins skip to step 3.

Salmon skin is rich in omega-3-fatty-acids which help with joints and inflammation, fur and skin, brain function, and immune system.

Ingredients:

  • Salmon filet with skin on

  • Coconut oil

Directions:

  1. Cook your salmon filet with minimal seasoning. Salt and olive oil.

  2. Peel the skin from the filet and set aside. You can eat your salmon filet as you like.

  3. Pre-heat oven to 200 degrees Fahrenheit.

  4. Take the skin and any left-over salmon, break into smaller pieces and toss with coconut oil, just enough to coat.

  5. Spread the pieces out over a non-stick cookie sheet and bake at 200 for 2-4 hours, until it becomes stiff. Cleo likes crunchy treats so we go more on the longer side.

  6. Once it becomes jerky-like texture you can take it out and let it cool.

  7. When cool they are ready for use! Enjoy!

Me with my little salmon lover.
