Flowers to Uplift the Chi

In Feng Shui we believe everything has energy, and all living things have their own unique energy. Each unique energy signature adds to a space and therefore can uplift or drain the energy of the environment. Fresh flower energy is one of the easiest ways to add in fresh chi and uplift the energy of your home.

Flowers have their own unique living chi that varries by type and color. As a plant they are related to the wood element which brings upward growth and forward progress. You can add flowers in to your home to call forward intentions based off of the area you place them in or the energy that they symbolize and emit.

Here are a few ideas for you to bring in flowers related to your intentions.

Love and Relationships in Your Bedroom

Take a look at the Bagua map and lay it over your bedroom, the love and relationship section is in the far right corner. If you are a single person calling in love and partnership - place peach colored roses in this area. Peach is a color known to be especially lucky in inviting in a new partnership. You can make this even more auspicious by using a pair of flowers, as two is the number of partnership. If you are in a happy couple and looking to spark passion in your relationship - place red roses in this area of your bedroom. Red is associated with fire energy, which will help you light that spark of passion. Pure red carnations are also a good option for this area, as they symbolize deep love and affection. If you are looking to improve self love - place pink flowers in this area. Pink is a gentle and calm energy, which will encourage you to be gentle and compassionate with yourself.

Prosperity and Abundance in the Office

Activate abundance energy in your life by placing flowers in the far left corner of your office or desk. Purple orchids are an especially auspicious flower for career success and abundance in Feng Shui. African violets provide the energy of self-love and protection. A potted African violet in the office can encourage you to be your best self in business and in life. Other purple flowers such as lilacs, carnations, and hydrangeas could also work in this area to activate that abundant royal purple energy.

Uplift Bathroom Chi

Bathrooms are known to be a draining space in the home with multiple draining features (sinks, toilets, shower/bath) that allow energy to be taken away from the home. I love to place a small bouquet of flowers in each bathroom to uplift the energy of the bathroom overall and counteract the draining energy. From a Feng Shui perspective it is helpful to balance the elements of the bathroom using flowers. Adding flowers to the bathroom supports the nurturing cycle (water nurtures wood) and balances the excess water energy creating harmonious Feng Shui. Adding plants and flowers to your bathroom is especially helpful if it is located in the family gua (middle left of the Bagua) or the knowledge and self-cultivation gua (bottom left of the Bagua).

Flowers in Real Estate Staging

You can be intentional as to what flower you bring into a staging based on the energy you are looking to inspire in your open house. Bringing in live flowers to your open house can really transform the space from feeling stale and stagnant to lively, cheerful, and uplifting.

Yellow is the color of happiness, health, and optimism and the kitchen is referred to as the heart of the home. I recommend adding a bouquet of yellow flowers to the kitchen to add energetic yang energy and infuse joy into a space where families will spend time and gather over nutritious meals together. A bouquet of yellow flowers draws you into the kitchen to explore and imagine a happy life in this new home.

If there is a particular room or area of the home that feels dark, dull or drained, like a basement bathroom, I recommend adding in a standing light (or plug in night light) and bringing in a plant or bouquet of flowers to keep the energy fresh and uplifted in this area.

Staging the front with flowers is also particularly attractive to buyers. This adds incredible value to “curb appeal.” Place groups of potted flowers in odd numbers on the front porch to entice buyers and create a welcoming affect.

From a Feng Shui perspective this image has great energy! Fresh, lively, uplifting yellow flowers on a circular table that looks both inviting and comfortable. And auspicious fruits! To stage this better I would add more fruits to make a total of nine, preferably oranges, and put them in a metal or blue bowl.

Dried Flowers

These are unfortunately related to lifeless chi - not ideal. I do not recommend having these in the home whether that be to live in or to stage for real estate.

If you are attached to your dried flowers (dried wedding bouquet is what I’m thinking here), then make sure they remain vibrant, dustless, and well lit.
