Hey, friend,

I Could Develop Alzheimer's Disease.

And what I’m doing about it.

This past summer I found out that I carry one copy of the apolipoprotein E 4 (APOE-4) gene. Having one copy of APOE4 can triple your risk of developing late-onset Alzheimer’s, while having two copies can increase your risk by almost 12 times. After I found out my genetic risk, I got to work understanding how Alzheimer’s develops, learned about factors that I actually can control that will make an impact, and how I can implement this new knowledge into my daily life. This is not something that now controls my life, it’s not like I wake up and say “what can I do today to make sure I don’t develop Alzheimer’s?” But I have started intentional practices that I know will support my health, my brain health specifically, with the goal to reduce any further increased risk.

This blog post is my personal top three interventions for reducing my risk of developing Alzheimer’s disease. Look out for part 2 in the future talking about things like sauna, blue berries, and supplements.

If you find this informative or you know someone who could benefit from it, I’d love for you to share it!

I want to extend my heartfelt love and support to anyone affected by Alzheimer’s disease or dementia, acknowledging the profound pain and challenges it brings into our lives and the lives of our loved ones. If you or someone you love also is affected by or has an increased risk of Alzheimer’s or dementia feel free to reach out to me for support, or check out some of the resources I’ve used to educate myself, cited in the blog post.

Recs of the Week:

  1. My first recommendation for the week is to declutter, especially if you have an area of your home that needs it and you’ve been putting off. We have an old cedar closet that we use as a utility closet and that thing was about to EXPLODE. Every time I saw it or walked past, I felt frustration and anxiety. In Feng Shui, clutter in the home is also clutter in the mind and body. It was definitely affecting me and I couldn’t handle it anymore. IMO the best way to declutter to make sure everything has a place. I went to the hardware store and bought a bunch of clear plastic bins of varying sizes. It took a few hours, but I pulled everything out and organized it all, small tools in one bin, extension cords, painting supplies, caulking, wrapping, etc, everything had a bin. I ended up with one big bag of trash, and a few good items we don’t need for donation. OMG the feeling of relief when I was finished! Next step is to label the boxes to make sure we remember where to put things back once we take them out so the closet doesn’t end up like it was before. I hope my pics below will inspire you! If I can tackle that closet in one afternoon, you can make a dent in your clutter too!

  2. My second rec of the week is the audiobook, “Change Your Paradigm, Change Your Life,” by Bob Proctor and Dan Strutzel. Bob Proctor is famous for his mindset and manifestation work, you may know him from “The Secret.” This book is an interview with Bob about how our “paradigm” shapes everything in our lives and how we can change it to live the life that we truly want. I liked listening to this in the car since the interview format is similar to a podcast.

THE closet before. How embarrassing.

THE closet after, a sigh of relief, I can see the back!

I hope you have an amazing week ahead. If there are any health and wellness topics you’d like to see in the newsletter, please don’t hesitate to reach out. And if you know someone else you might like a dose of Still Jacey in their inbox, I’d love for you to pass my newsletter along!
