Issue #10
Wow, 10 weeks of consistent newsletters! Thank you for being here, I’ve really enjoyed coming to this space and writing to you about what’s on my heart each week.
Happy Holidays to all who celebrated!
I came across a statistic about New Year’s resolutions that I found interesting, over 70% of all New Year’s goals are related to physical health, and the top three New Year’s resolutions overall are related to health and wellness, those being to exercise more, eat healthier, and lose weight.
This made me think of the first Feng Shui book I ever purchased which was the catalyst for my entire Home Energetics journey, Feng Shui and Health by Nancy SantoPeitro. In the first chapter she writes, “the primary objective of Feng Shui is always to create home and work environments that are in alignment with the healing forces of nature, thus creating spaces that naturally support and nurture the individuals who occupy them.” With a background in western medicine, I love to learn about human health and wellness. I also love to learn about eastern modalities, such as traditional Chinese medicine and reiki, when I found this book on Feng Shui I was hooked.
Read on to learn the first three of the nine crucial principles to Feng Shui and health outlined by SantoPietro in her book, you can find the final six in my blog post. Apply them to your life in 2023 and have the happiest and healthiest year yet.
Number 1: Command position
Most important for beds (rest/rejuvenation), desks (creativity), and stoves (wealth). It’s important to being facing the doorways so you can face all opportunities and experiences actively, you don’t want anything going on “behind your back.”
Number 2: Attend to all leaks
As humans we are made up of mostly water. Water in Feng Shui is associated with both money and emotions. Water related problems in the home can manifest in our emotional and financial wellbeing. Leaks can cause depression, emotional and financial instability.
Number 3: Maintain functional doors
Each entryway in necessary for the flow of chi, and doors are often referred to the “mouth of chi.” A well-functioning door can support the movement of chi and ultimately your health. Doors that don’t close, get jammed, squeak, or are broken, obstruct flowing energy and eventually deplete it, or can cause issues with joints or the mouth/voice.
Number 4: Clear clutter
When I mention Feng Shui, people always ask, “are you going to make me get rid of all my stuff?” Our things have energy. They energy we accumulate en masse can create obstacles, may be related to issues we don’t want to deal with, or aspects of our lives weighing us down. Clarity in the space around us creates clarity in our mental and physical wellbeing.
Number 5: Maintain your electrical system
Our personal energy chi follows the same patterns as the energetic electrical systems in our home. If your hom’s electrical system is out of whack (lights bulbs are out, outlets don’t work, broken appliances, etc), it can manifest as low personal energy, lack of clarity and focus.
Number 6: Bring light to dark areas
Lighting correlates with life-force chi. Dark and dingy areas in the home can manifest in your emotional or physical body. Bring light into dark areas, like closets or corners, to create positive energy flow throughout the home and your body.
Number 7: Reduce high levels of EMFs
Interior EMF sources include microwaves, wifi routers, TVs, computers, and the like. These items emit electromagnetic pollution in the form of EMFs (electromagnetic frequencies). This pollution become toxic to the body systems over time, causing weakening and illness. It’s almost impossible to live in the 21st century without these items, but its best to try and reduce them to what is truly necessary. You can also buy things like shields for your laptops or screens. If possible turn off electronics and internet routers while you are sleeping.
Number 8: Clear all piping systems - water plumbing, drains, aircon/heat vents
These home piping systems correlate with our human lymph, circulatory, and nervous systems in the body. Water drainage systems are associated with our human drainage system, think colon, small intestine, urinary system. Air/heat vents are associated with the respiratory system. When water and air are flowing freely through the home, your personal energy can flow freely through all your organ systems.
Number 9: Keep up with house maintenance
House hygiene is personal hygiene. Tend to your home with love and care, as you would (should?) tend to your own body. Choose decorations that you enjoy, repair items that are in need, and keep up with housework. Enhance your home life to improve the overall quality of your life and health.
Setting 2023 Goals
I created my own goal planner and I want to share this planner with you so you can consider what you’d like to see for yourself in 2023. You can complete this planner whenever feels right for you, whether that be today, next week, NYE, or even next July. You can complete the whole year, the next 6 months, or just one month at a time, use it however feels right for you.
I also came across this free new year reflection booklet, Year Compass, if you’re looking for a deeper reflection on 2022.
