This week’s newsletter feels extra nourishing and supportive. Read below for from advice from a trusted friend and therapist, Home Energetics for a fresh new year, along with my personal relaxation plan for the week.

Morgan’s Holiday Hot Take:

My friend Morgan is a trained therapist, intuitive coach, educator, and spiritual practitioner. I thought she would be the perfect person to ask for some thoughtful advice for all of us at this time of the year. Personally, it was exactly what I needed to hear, I think you’ll get something out of it too. Here’s what she said:

“Holidays can be a time for joy, love, and feeling grateful. Holidays can also highlight stress, grief, and anxiety...to name a few. Actually, a lot of us feel more stress during the holidays than any other time of the year.

I want to empower you with this: We don’t always have control over external factors. We never have control over other people. However, we do have autonomy over ourselves and our boundaries.

Two things can be true this holiday season: It can be a joyous time AND it can bring up difficult feelings.
Here are some quick ways to regulate stress:

- Start with deep breaths
- Ask yourself, “What is this bringing up?”
- Ground by engaging your senses (sight, smell, taste, sound, touch)
- Google: ‘The Feelings Wheel’ and find language for your experience (This helps us feel more validated and also helps us communicate.
- Find support (favorite cousin, partner, pet etc)

Home Energetics for a Fresh New Year

The end of the year is a great time to reconsider what we surround ourselves with and how it’s making us feel. In Home Energetics the home is a reflection of our energy. Clutter adds energetic weight to the home which then eventually impacts our personal wellbeing and energy. Clarity in our surroundings equals clarity of our personal energy. If there is anything in our lives that is weighing us down (physically in the home or emotionally) it’s time to consider letting it go before we move into 2023.

When I declutter, I like to do one room at a time, and I’ll make sure to tackle it in one sitting. My general rule is if I haven’t worn it or used it in one whole year, then it’s time for it to move on. The one-year rule works for me because it encompasses all seasons and if I really like something, but haven’t used it in a year, then why do have it and do I actually like it? I make three piles, reorganize (keeping), give away (charity), and trash.

Try this simple practice to let go before the new year: In Feng Shui we like to use the numbers three or nine. If you’d like to start small, try finding three items in your home to release. Even the simple act of releasing three items can be transformative. For a deeper practice, every day for nine days, find three items (or go crazy and find 9) to release. If you start today you’ll end the practice on 12/28 and have released 27 items (or 81), just in time for the new year! After the nine days you will absolutely feel a huge shift! Your home will feel lighter, and I bet you will too.

My Relaxation Plan for the Week

Go on a long walk in nature with my dog while listening to this podcast. I’ve already listened once, but its good enough to repeat. It’s all about the connection between gratitude and generosity (perfect for the holidays), and it has a beautiful meditation at the end.
