Office Feng Shui
So you can’t place your desk in command?
“Jacey, I read your blog, but my desk must face the wall! Ugh! There’s nothing that can be done about it. Am I doomed?”
No way! You are never doomed in feng shui. That’s why I love it, you never have to feel helpless, there is always a something that can be done to improve your home energetics, no matter what the situation.
If your home office setup/layout does not allow for you to sit in command position here is what you can do.
Facing the wall
It is not ideal for your desk to face a wall because this gives “dead end energy.” Does anyone want a career dead end? You might feel like all the projects, opportunities, and partnerships actually hit a dead end and no matter what you do they do not pan out as you planned. Here’s how to change that;
When you are facing a wall directly, make that wall something you want to actually be looking at. Here are some ideas for what you can put in front of your face when you’re working against a wall.
Make a vision board that includes all your future hopes and dreams. I love this trick. Be specific with what you put on the vision board – how much money do you want to make? Where do you see yourself in 6 months, 1 year, 5 years? Where will you live, vacation to? What do you look like? What surrounds you? Have this right in front of you when you’re working. Every time you look up, you’ll see your future self vision ahead of you. Changing your self image, seeing your inspiration every time you look up is the opposite of “dead end energy.”
Something beautiful. Do you have a happy place? Maybe it’s the beach or the mountains. Find a picture that makes you feel at peace, and place this on the wall. Do you have a travel bucket list? Maybe you’ve always dreamed of visiting Greece, get a beautiful picture that encompasses the energy of your dream destination and place this on your wall.
Family. This is a classic one. If you find yourself feeling that doom and gloom, place a picture that makes you smile in front of you. Whenever you look up you can see your family’s smiling faces and remember why you do what you do. Feel their love and support and energetically send them love and support back.
Doorbell
Is your back to the door? Do you have a suspicious feeling of anxiety when you sit down at your desk, like anyone can walk in on you at any moment and interrupt your thoughts and workflow. Place a bell on your door. This helps to strengthen your feeling of command. The bell will alert you with a pleasant, cheerful chime before your coworker/partner/kid can.
A ringing bell is also a great way to clear residual negative energy. A ringing bell on the door will dispel negativity whenever someone enters and replaces it with positive energy. This is a very simple and low effort way to improve the overall energy of your office, no matter what position your desk it facing.
Your desk chair
This is important if you cannot sit in command, and especially important if your back faces a door. You should not feel as if your back is exposed and vulnerable. Your chair should feel supportive, stable, and comfortable. A chair with a high back supports you physically and energetically. When you choose the right chair this will translate to feeling supported, stable, and comfortable in your career.
